Pricilla Arriaga and son Matthew.“I’ve cried a lot recently,” says Priscilla Arriaga, a former HOMECorp tenant, as she spoke from her sparkling new kitchen at Montclair Residences with her 8 year-old son, Matthew.

“We just love it here!” Only a year ago, life for Ms. Arriaga and Matthew looked questionable at best. She’d lost her job and didn’t know how she would pay the rent in her HOMECorp apartment. She quickly turned to HOMECorp for help.

Carla Burgess

Carla at her new home in MontclairCarla Burgess will mark the first anniversary of home ownership April 26 and she couldn’t be happier. “I’m just ecstatic,” she said, it's wonderful.

What was also wonderful for Ms. Burgess was the help she got form HOMECorp’s  First Time Homebuyer Workshop in January 2010. “The information they shared opened my eyes – I got so many useful bits of information that I am still using,” Ms. Burgess said.

A resident of Montclair since 1965, she had been talking about buying a home for years but delayed, “putting my words into action,” she said. In October, 2009 she finally consulted a realtor but wanted additional information. Ms. Burgess has known about HOMECorp from her friend HOMECorp property manager, Barbara Brown, and also from her father, Carl Blyden, a long-time parishioner at St. Peter Claver Church. Both had urged her to use HOMECorp’s first-time homebuyer’s services. So finally she did.
